Greetings Tour Members,

Just a thought. Even if you aren’t participating in a tour, you can still derive benefit from it. If you blog this week, link to the CSFF tour post which lists those who are participating. See http://csffblogtour.com/  Also, take a moment each day to read a post or two from those listed below and comment. Visiting other blogs and participating in conversations is one of the best ways of bringing traffic to your site.

For those who are participating, linking to others on the tour is a requirement as you know. I’ve suggested each of you also visits at least five other blogs during the tour and comment. Last month was exceptional. We had some who made it to every site, and the conversation was thought-provoking. I know reading all those insights helped me formulate what I wanted to say in my posts, too.

Just a reminder that linking to specific articles—perhaps ones you found particularly creative or controversial or funny—ends up helping you when it comes to search engine placement.

Now on to the main event.

Tour Details. This month’s tour for Night of the Living Dead Christian by our own Matt Mikalatos (Tyndale) runs Monday through Wednesday. For those of you who received review copies of the book, please remember to include a disclaimer such as the following: In conjunction with the CSFF Blog Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Don’t forget, we can maximize our effect on the market by posting our reviews in multiple places. If you are on Facebook, be sure to share the links to your tour posts. You can also announce the tour on Twitter, then afterward you can post your review at places like Amazon, Goodreads, and B&N. Be creative and let people know about the books you’re reading and reviewing.

Happy Christmas decorating and shopping. (Don’t forget to buy books whenever appropriate! ;-)

Happy Almost Thanksgiving, CSFF’ers,

Because the US Thanksgiving Holiday is fast approaching, because our next feature, Corus The Champion by D. Barkley Briggs, hasn’t been in our hands all that long, and because our last tour happened a week later than usual, I’ve decided to make another schedule adjustment. Rather than holding the tour during week three of November, we’ll feature Corus week one of December. That puts the tour on Monday, December 5 through Wednesday, December 7.

A few other details. D. Barkley Briggs is available for interviews! You can contact him at dbarkleybriggs@gmail.com

Also Dean is holding a contest during the month of November. By way of promoting his tour, perhaps you could mention the contest on your web site or Facebook page or Tweet about it. You should also enter! The grand prize is something I think most of us would love to have. You can learn all about it at his web site  – http://hiddenlands.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=63&Itemid=89 then get all the latest updates at his Facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/DBarkleyBriggs

As I started reading Corus, one major issue surfaced. This is book two of a continuing fantasy story. Much like the tour we just finished for Stephen Lawhead’s The Bone House, we need to familiarize ourselves with what came before in order to fully appreciate the story. I’ve taken the liberty of copying story summaries of The Book of Names from some of our CSFF members who participated in the tour for the first book.

From John Otte: It’s the story of the Barlow brothers. They’ve recently moved to a small farm in Missouri with their professor father. The transition is a difficult one, but Hadyn and Ewan, the two older brothers, discover a strange runestone, one that transports them to a place called Karac Tor. They’re told that they could be heroes summoned to help a troubled land. For a mighty sorceress is stealing the names of young people in attempt to unleash a great evil. Will Hadyn and Ewan be able to find their way home again, or will they be consumed by the ever growing evil?

From Jill Williamson: Hayden and Ewan recently moved to rural Missouri. Their mother recently passed away, and they are grieving her loss and the loss of their old home. Hayden has been assigned the job of clearing the briar patch, and Hayden, for fun, has been clearing it by cutting tunnels into it. His brother Ewan offers to help one day. As they are working, four ravens approach carrying something. The birds drop their cargo in the briar patch and vanish. Hayden and Ewan discover four tubes holding scrolls. Each reads the same: You have been chosen for a life of great purpose. Adventure awaits you in the hidden lands. The boys search for the birds and discover a stone arch with strange carvings on it. An arch that is a portal to another world.

From Phyllis Wheeler: The story starts in Missouri (my adopted home state) where a family of four boys grieves for their mom, who died of cancer. The kids are four boys, the oldest 15. They have just moved to the country north of St. Louis with their dad.

Hadyn and Ewan, the older two, are clearing a briar patch and discover an arched stone scrawled with Viking runes. Suddenly, four mysterious ravens drop messages at their feet and disappear through the arch. The messages, signed by “A,” are four identical scrolls calling them to the Hidden Lands. Soon the two boys are following the ravens through the arch.

They find themselves in the land of Karac Tor, which is at war.  Magic is commonplace here, including some magic familiar to our ears, such as fairy folk and Arthurian mystery, and other unfamiliar magic.  The boys, who really just want to go home, are drawn into a massive conflict between godly monks and an evil sorceress who is turning all the teenagers in the land into zombies under her command. Hadyn and Ewan discover they have some special magic powers of their own in this land.

The monks are looking forward to the ninth and final coming of Aion, the son of the father God.  But plenty of tribulation is happening first. Hadyn is captured by the sorceress and is on his way to becoming a mindless follower. Younger Ewan finds he has the courage to lead a rescue. Both brothers prove their loyalty and courage in a battle with the sorceress.

Then Hadyn and Ewan discover that their younger twin brothers have come through the portal too, leading into the next book, where the conflict is with the evil power behind the sorceress, the Deceiver himself.

Hopefully that gives you some basis of understanding. Also, you can become familiar with some of the key names and places, along with some great sketches, at Dean’s site:  http://hiddenlands.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=53

Opting in and out details later.

Becky
