Need Your Help

Hi, All,

July Tour. First, if you’re planning to request a review copy of Bryan Davis’s Starlighter, you should know the Zondervan PR person has asked for a “phone number (UPS won’t send unless they have this because if no one is home to accept delivery they are stuck with the books) [and] Number of blog followers.” This latter could be followers or unique page hits (a monthly average, perhaps)—anything to give them an idea about what kind of traffic you’re getting. Please include this info as well as your name and address. Deadline, remember, is Monday, 9:00 AM Pacific time.

Also, Bryan is available for interviews. Contact him at: (remove the -spam- from before and after the @ sign) bryan-spam-@-spam-dragonsinourmidst.com

Request for Help. We received a request for your help from John Weaver, a doctoral candidate and an acquaintance of CSFF member Chris Walley. I asked if he wanted responses from authors only, and he said he’d welcome participation from both writers and fans.

You can answer the questions if you choose to and email them directly to him at (remove the -spam- from before and after the @ sign) john_weaver8-spam-@-spam-hotmail.com . He’ll need them no later than mid-July. Here’s his note with the questions:

Dear CSFF blog tour members,
My name is John Weaver. I am a PhD candidate at SUNY Binghamton. Currently, I am revising a paper for publication, dealing with Christian science fiction (specifically the works of Chris Walley and Kathy Tyers). I was wondering if I could ask a couple of questions to the writers on your list (If you need references, Chris Walley has exchanged e-mails with me over the years).

Here’s the questions

1. How does your faith affect your science fiction writing and vice versa?

2. Do you think there’s anything theologically inconsistent with being both a science fiction writer and an evangelical Christian?

3. How well does the evangelical community accept science fiction, in your opinion? Do you have any personal experience of the community either heartily accepting or heartily rejecting science fiction?

4. How well (or poorly) do you think the sci-fi community accepts Christian fans?

5. Are there any particular themes that should be off-limits or problematic for Christian scifi-writers? Why are they problematic?

6. What do you think of the relationship between evolutionary theory and science fiction? Is it possible to write a pro-evolutionary evangelical science fiction narrative?

Anyway, those are my questions. Feel free to e-mail me at the address listed above. Congrats on a great site.

John Weaver

Becky
